In this episode of Pillow Talk Sessions, Robert Birch, Head of Operational Living at Gravity Co, joins the conversation to unpack how the brand is reimagining the way we live—not just where we live. Gravity Co began as a co-living concept with a strong emphasis on community and shared experiences. Today, it’s a multifaceted operator expanding into Build-to-Rent (BTR), hospitality, and international markets, with launches in Madrid and other European cities planned for 2025 and 2026.
Robert draws from his early career in hospitality, particularly in hostels across Europe, where he observed how deeply people value connection while traveling. That insight inspired the Gravity model: a lifestyle-focused approach to living, where people aren’t just renting a room, they’re becoming part of a community. For Gravity, creating a sense of belonging is just as important as providing quality accommodation.
At the heart of Gravity’s evolution is a reimagined membership model that replaces traditional tenancy agreements. Members aren’t just residents—they’re part of a larger network. Through the Gravity app, they can join interest groups, engage in events across buildings, and even maintain social connections after they move out. A forthcoming “social membership” program aims to formalize this, allowing former residents to remain connected to the brand and its growing global network. The goal is to make membership with Gravity a long-term relationship, not just a temporary housing solution.
Technology and data also play a crucial role in shaping the resident journey. From onboarding to departure, Gravity uses data points across departments to better understand and respond to resident needs. Maintenance response times, amenity usage, and event attendance all contribute to a holistic view of the resident experience. Importantly, Robert stresses the need for transparency—communicating with both staff and residents about why this data is collected, and how it improves day-to-day life.
Sustainability and adaptability are equally critical to Gravity’s long-term strategy. Rather than focusing solely on new developments, the company actively seeks to revive underperforming buildings—retrofitting infrastructure, optimizing energy systems, and integrating renewable energy solutions. It’s an approach that aligns with Gravity’s mission to reduce environmental impact while creating more meaningful, human-centered spaces.
As the brand continues to expand, Gravity is becoming more than a housing provider—it’s positioning itself as a lifestyle platform. From digital connectivity to community-driven design, Robert Birch and the team at Gravity Co are leading the charge in redefining what modern living can and should look like.
